Why Join?

Grantmaking is challenging work, and belonging to the DVG network can help you to gain valuable knowledge and contacts that will save you time while improving your effectiveness.

The TOP 10 reasons that DVG adds value to your philanthropy:

1. Networks that work. We help you connect with the private foundations, community foundations, corporate foundations and giving programs, and other philanthropic organizations that give in our region. You can be in touch with, and learn from, your peers who are making a difference in your area.

2. Regional matters. We are your access point for information and resources related to our region’s unique needs. You can also work with and through DVG to stretch your grant dollars by leveraging dollars with funders who also support the causes you care about.

3. Local service. We offer you programs, services and events that are close-at-hand. With frequent skill-building and networking activities in our region (many of which are summarized in the Members Area of our website), you don’t have to travel far to gain the knowledge and connections you need.

4. Personal touch. We get to know you, your organizations, your distinct characteristics and goals. You receive personalized attention from staff people who live and work in this region—and who are committed to helping your organization excel in achieving its goals.

5. Great Conferences and Programs. We deliver the region's premier annual conference on philanthropy as well as monthly programs and seminars, which provide new ideas and information, proven practices, and helpful contacts.

6. Partners and Experts. We provide training and skills building opportunities led by regional and national experts in the field, plus a professional staff and experienced peers. You have ready access to information on grantmaking, administration, accounting, technology, and governance, in addition to resources that relate to your funding interests.

7. Research and Benchmarking. We can help you find answers to questions regarding your philanthropy through our extensive library resources and vast network of affiliated contacts, and provide you with relevant information to place your giving in a regional or national context.

8. Access to Leaders. Through our Critical Dialogue series, we bring our members face-to-face with the local, state, and national officials who shape public policy, helping to facilitate a dialogue between philanthropy and the public sector for the benefit of our communities.

9. News you can use. As a clearinghouse of information about the philanthropic and nonprofit sector, we capture relevant news and keep our members informed of what is happening on the local and national scene that would affect your work and that of your grantees.

10. Best value. We help you to save time and money by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of your grantmaking program. Your membership in DVG is an investment that goes a long way.

Joining DVG is easy, and your annual membership covers participation by all trustees and staff of your foundation, corporation, or grantmaking public charity. Individual philanthropists can join DVG, as well (see criteria for individual membership).
