Preserving the Public Trust
DVG believes that the field of philanthropy is
responsible for strengthening and expanding efforts
to ensure the highest levels of accountability
within its own ranks. In 2004, we developed and
adopted our “Statement
of Values, Guiding Principles and Best Practices
for DVG Members” to demonstrate
the commitment of our board, staff, and membership
to sustaining the public trust through effective
governance practices.
Through both our programming and communications,
DVG is committed to leading regional efforts to
further increase our members’ effectiveness,
build their knowledge of best practices, and foster
greater understanding of the unique role that
philanthropy serves in our society and community.
As part of this effort to build knowledge about
best practices and good governance standards in
philanthropy, we have created this new section
of our website to provide grantmakers with tools
and resources they can use to benchmark their
activities as they work to enhance their accountability
and effectiveness.
DVG will continue to collaborate with national
organizations such as the Council on Foundations,
Independent Sector and the Forum of Regional Associations
of Grantmakers to create additional resources
to aid the compliance of regional grantmakers
with these guiding principles.
